Tented Beach Wedding – Casa Ybel Resort, Sanibel { Devorah + Jeff }

One of the things that makes Casa Ybel Resort so unique is the ability to have an outdoor tented wedding overlooking the beach. The Back Lawn overlooking the Gulf of Mexico is a spectacular setting for Sanibel Island weddings. Devorah and Jeff said their vows under a bamboo chuppah on the beach with the aquamarine ocean as their backdrop. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres were served al fresco on the Back Lawn with a rustic chic reception under a tent. The details really made this ocean front beach wedding a sight to see – wine barrel cocktail tables, glitter stitched burlap table linens, chandeliers overhead, and driftwood centerpieces. Perhaps the most memorable features was the entertainment. Stereo Armada by Wiley Entertainment combines DJ mixes with live percussionists for a vibe that keeps the party going all night.

Tropical Wedding Venue - Sanibel Island, Florida

We had a great pleasure meeting this couple last year for the first time. We took their engagement pictures here in Naples, and this year it was time to celebrate their marriage and photograph their wedding at Casa Ybel Resort in Sanibel. It was an awesome day, and we got really lucky with the weather!

Mark and Ashley were introduced through Ashley’s aunt and had never met despite having many mutual friends. They went out a few times and the reason they were never introduced by their friends became obvious, they were exact opposites. She was artsy, he was far from it, she was very neat and organized and he couldn’t spell the word. After a few dates they stopped talking, as the timing and differences seemed too much to overcome. From that time forward they seemed to run into each other frequently, which is strange for two people who had never met before. Fast forward three years and after several chance run-ins with Ashley, things seemed a little different. Maybe it was that they both stopped trying so hard, maybe the awkward getting to know each other period was over, but something seemed different. Mark realized what a fool he had been, dusted off Ashley’s number and asked her out. This time around things were different, where there had been awkward silence there was now laughter, when it was difficult to make eye contact, there was now a spark. Mark and Ashley were now a perfect fit. Twelve months later Mark was on his knee in the laundry room of their new home asking Ashley to be his wife. This goes to show, nothing is perfect and things don’t always go as planned right down to the proposal, but for this couple it was perfect. Turns out Ashley’s Aunt Merilee was right, these two are perfect for each other.

Intimate Island Wedding – Casa Ybel Resort, Sanibel Island { Julie + Kyle }

They arrived from PA with family and friends for their beach wedding on 1-5-15. It was a late afternoon wedding at the Casa Ybel Resort. We started with photos of Kyle and his family. Kyle and Julie did not want to see each other before the ceremony, so Kyle went into the Thistle Lodge Restaurant to wait for the ceremony. When Julie arrived with their two children, we created some additional images. Gianna was a joy to photograph with her Mom! We wanted to start their Sanibel Island beach wedding on time, so off to the beach for a 4:30pm ceremony. Patricia Slater of Weddings by the Sea was the officiate and wedding planner. The guests gathered and found their seats on the beach-just 50 feet from the Gulf of Mexico. The day was warm with overcast skies. During the last hour of daylight the warm color of light came through the clouds which made for great photographs. Little Kinsley was carried to the ceremony by Kyle’s brother. So then Gianna walked down the aisle with the rings, followed by her Mom who was escorted by her Dad. The beach wedding included a sand ceremony where the bridal family placed sand into a vase. The couple were pronounced ‘MARRIED’! by Patricia Slater and walked back down the aisle. They hugged friends and family and we then took off for some green landscape photos. With the gray overcast, I enjoyed making a few of the photographs in black & white, the rich contrast was great for this Sanibel Island beach wedding.

Sanibel Island Beach Wedding

Julie and Kyle were fun to photograph with great energy and patience during their wedding photo session. After the sunset photographs, the couple walked to the Gazebo Room of the Thistle Lodge Restaurant where they enjoyed a celebration dinner and wedding cake with their friends and family. They were served by the great staff at Thistle Lodge Restaurant. For over twenty years I have photographed intimate and destination weddings on Sanibel Island. Shown here are some of my favorite photographs we captured at their Sanibel Island beach wedding.

We recently had the pleasure of meeting Michael Sasser of Sasser Motion who came out to Casa Ybel Resort on Sanibel Island to film this wonderful wedding promo piece and interview Event Manager, Tori Weatherford. Flying a small drone over the shell strewn beach at dawn, he was able to capture the serenity and beauty of the Resort and the island. We are looking forward to seeing Michael at Casa Ybel for weddings in the future!

With her copper colored hair, lush tropical blooms and subtle ocean touches (like the shell and starfish wedding arch), we think she nailed it! Even Samantha’s dress has a mermaid flair!
